Milnes, John Pollard

Stranraer (1893-1918) and Newton Stewart (1893 – 1911)

Born 1865 in Huddersfield, by the 1891 census, Milnes was lodging in Stranraer and working as a photographer at Moryson’s Studios in Stranraer. By 1893 he had opened his own studio, which was sold in 1918. He took stereoviews of the Galloway area, often interesting animated images of local events, which are on a distinctive very dark grey/brown card. Sometimes poorly visible blindstamps of his name and studio locations, Stranraer & Newton Stewart, are imprinted at either end of the card.
