Testimonials/Feedback:

The Scotsman, Dec 2019, The Photographic Books of the Year, 2019
“… you really will see these pictures in 3D, and suddenly, magically, those stuffy old Victorians won’t seem quite so remote after all.”
Studies in Photography, Dec 2019, “I think this book would be a great Christmas gift”
“I just acquired this book. I have a number of other modern 3D books. This is the best production, easiest to view, and most satisfactory of all.” Andrew Eskind
“It really is a hell-of-an-accomplishment. The historical bits and quotes are educational and amusing. The addition of personal stories and photographs made the whole thing charming in the best sense of the word. Plus, the viewer works easily.”
“Your book arrived today, and it is amazing. I will be very happy to add that to my shelf of 3-D arcana.”
“Have enjoyed the book as have granddaughters who have taken to stereoscopy!”
“I received my copy of the book in the mail yesterday. It looks great.”
“The quality of the pictures is incredible – I’ve seen a few of the pictures before but the quality of the images in the book are the best I’ve seen. The viewer is excellent too, I’ve used a few viewers but not the Loreo, and it is the easiest to get inexperienced users to see in 3D. A great book, I love it. Well done.”
“Your excellent book arrived safely. It is beautifully arranged and presented. I spent two very happy days going through all the images. The text is beautifully judged too – a perfect balance of the scholarly and the informal.”

BOOK 2 OF 4:
CHAMONIX MONT BLANC IN 3D
Fun, quirky, surprising, interesting…
You will probably be amazed to discover that 3D was the most popular format of photograph 150 years ago! This unique, high quality, coffee-table-style book contains over 200 of such 3D stereoscopic views dating from the 1850s to today and is peppered with facts and anecdotes about Chamonix. The photographs transport the viewer into the Alps during the golden age of alpinism. Famous fellow travellers such as de Saussure, Dumas, Ruskin, Whymper, etc., provide a commentary as we admire intrepid ladies in crinolines crossing crevasses and climb Mont Blanc with Victorian alpinists. Several modern views taken by the author can be contrasted with views taken 150 years ago from the same vantage point, to highlight significant changes and the impact of global warming.
A fold-out stereoviewer is included with the book, allowing readers to immerse themselves in these astonishing Victorian 3D images.
The book will be of interest to any admirer of antique photography, but also to anyone who loves the Alps and has an interest in history or climate change. It is a perfect present for the Chamonix lover.
Born in Scotland, at home in Chamonix, the author Peter Blair spends his free time enjoying the mountains on foot and on ski. He has always been fascinated by the science and magic of photography, has amassed one of the largest collections of stereoviews of the Alps and loves to share this passion.
