Hugh Murdoch was born in Muirkirk, Ayrshire in 1825 and died in America in 1901 or 1902. He ran a studio in his garden at 10 Beresford Terrace in Ayr from 1864 until it burnt down in 1869. He also had premises at 10 Killoch Place, Ayr from 1867 to 1879 when he sold out to Ambrose Bara. Very few stereoviews by him of Ayrshire have been seen.
